You're invited! :)
Jan. 27th, 2014 06:30 pmWhat even is this?
Voyagers is a private, invite only musebox with no rules, no obligations, no responsibilities, no AC. It will hopefully have a community feel where you can get whatever your heart desires out of it. No, seriously! Anything. Want random ass, unexpected CR? Get it! Want to hook up your character with someone? Get it! Want to build strong CR/try out character growth/destruction? Want a place to play a char for a day and never visit that char again? GET IT!! etc. etc. etc.
The idea for the mechanics of this place was borrowed shamelessly from outsideinn which borrowed theirs from millwaysbar which grabbed theirs from a piece of fiction. I FORGET WHICH. The concept is basically that there is a place (inn, bar, etc) that is in between universes, which people can come to chill at together or have great plots or do whatever the fuck you want.
Currently, Voyagers is set on a cruise ship, which travels through an endless ocean and has no destination. On the main deck, there is The Door. It is just chilling at the front of the cruise ship, thinking it is King of the World (WOOO!). Characters come through this door from wherever they were before. If you don't feel like playing out the WHERE AM I?-ness of it, you can pretend like they've been here before. There are NPCs in cruise ship uniforms who will give characters a brief rundown of: "You're in a place between universes! Enjoy the cocktails!" If you try to punch one of them, your fist will go through them. Maybe they're ghosts or holograms! Who knows?
The Door can be locked for that specific character for as long as you want in case they're the type to try to get back immediately. Later, the door can be unlocked, and they can walk back into whatever life they come from. A mysterious force can also drag them back through the door when you want them to get on with their lives if they're the type to be reluctant to return to whatever universe they came from. They can come and go as much as you want them. It is up to you if the character remembers their time in Voyagers while they're not here. Will it affect things back home? Do they take the random advice they got over drinks at the bar? Do they try to take someone home with them and will it work? That is up to you! 8) When the character comes back though, they will remember the CR that they made in Voyagers and get to develop it, grow it, etc.
Characters will have a room w/ their name indented into it. The door will open only for them if it's closed though once the door is open all bets are off. It is up to you whether they are in a First Class room or a regular passenger room though I especially recommend saddling those who don't deserve Nice Things with a regular room. ;)
Anything about the cruise ship that you want to be a thing? It's a thing. This is all of your sandboxes too. While I won't have more of a setting post than this, I might put up a post for people to comment on with little details that they've added to the ship. Like for instance, is there a saxophone player who is also a ghost that gives amazing tunes at midnight on the deck? Is the pool always a little too cold? Is there a comedy show every Thursday which is laughably terrible? Create your own NPCs. Create your own anything!
Main community: Logs (prose, action spam, comment spam) and comm posts (thinking BTR style journals)!
OOC comm: Plotting and memes!
